     Will there be any harm in the long run if I file 1040 instead of 1040 NR ? I am on F1 status and was here for whole of 2007.

       Is it going to affect me in the long run if i file 1040 ? What do you say guys ??

By rule, F1 should file 1040NR. So, if you break rule to save tax amount, it might bite later in green card or citizenship process.

dude...in the long run everyone is dead...don't worrry...take it easy...Uncle Sam is not coming after you. and what do you mean by long run....green card??? if you are lucky enough to get your name in lottery than you are too lucky to get about with 1040/1040 NR...don't worry.

I know many people filing 1040 instead of 1040NR. They are so confident that nothing will happen in the future. The thing is its illegle. If you want to file 1040, you have to take the risk to receive the money and you won't get $600 back if you don't file 1040.

Also I know some people (Nepali) who had filed 1040 and they have got green card.

So its kind of confusion.

I am sure you have't done any off campus job so why are you worried dude. Just fill 1040 NR. It gives all your taxes back. Else, does it matter.
