Most states have Nepali associations and I wonder if these associations can each give us some estimate. I think to get an exact number we will probably have to contact somebody at INS but I don't know who...:) Putting a registration on sajha will certainly create a biased number - I know many nepali people who don't come to sajha or would not like to participate on sajha for whatever reason.

The Nepali Associations across the US do not have this data, presumed as it is unavailable on their websites. Mysansar.co, has come up with an article today, which mentions: * गएको १८ बर्षमा करिब ५५ हजार नेपाली विद्यार्थी अमेरिका पढ्न आए
* अमेरिकाबाट पीएचडी गर्ने र गरिरहेका नेपालीहरुको संख्या करिब ४ हजार
* दुई सयको हाराहारीमा नेपाली मूलका प्राध्यापकहरु
* अमेरिका पढ्न आउने नेपाली विद्यार्थीको बढ्दो संख्यासँगै नेपालीहरुले
अमेरिकाको प्राज्ञिक क्षेत्रमा आफ्नो पहिचानलाई दह्रो बनाउँदै छन् ।

मेरिका आउने नेपाली विद्यार्थीको इतिहास खोतल्दै जाँदा विगत ५५ वर्षसम्मको आधिकारीक तथ्यांक पाइएको छ । अमेरिकाको न्युयोर्कस्थित गैरनाफामूलक गैरसरकारी संस्था इन्टिच्युट अफ इन्टरनेशनल एजुकेशन (आई.इ.इ.) को बाषिर्क प्रतिवेदन ओपन डोर्सका अनुसार नेपाली विद्यार्थी पढ्न भनेर आउनेक्रम आजभन्दा करिब ५५ बर्ष अर्थात सन् १९५४/५५ मा शुरु भएको थियो । उक्त वर्ष २ जना पुरुष र २ जना महिला गरी जम्मा ४ जना नेपाली विद्यार्थी पढ्नको लागि अमेरिका आएका थिए जसमध्ये २ जना ग्य्राजुयट र २ जना अण्डर ग्य्राजुयटका बिद्यार्थी थिए । उनीहरुमध्ये पनि एकजना छात्रवृत्तिमा, एक जना आफ्नै खर्चमा र एक जना युनिभर्सिटीको खर्चमा आएका थिए ।

Santosh jee, if thats from the site mysansar then its fake. Communists have a proven track record of faking the data since the old Soviet days. Mysansar was probably gathering stats on, how many innocent people did they killed in what year, and renamed the stats differently to make some do in the process...
