A big birthday present for the fiesty septuagenarian who turned 75 on Monday this week.

Pinter is one of the two contemporary British playwrights that I admire most - the other being Tom Stoppard. Been to a few productions of the Pinter plays both in the Edinburgh Fringe festival and London's West End. The most popular of his plays include 'Ashes to Ashes', 'Homecoming', 'No Man's Land' etc but my personal best is ''Old Times' - which according to his biographer Michael Billington, is 'a work of beautiful elegiac obliquity'. Whatever that means!

An enormously fulfilling year for Pinter and indeed for British theatre. 29 plays under his belt, he's recently embarked on a new project - a radio play in collaboration with the composer James Clarke. It was aired on BBC Radio 3 on Monday to coincide with his birthday. The delectable Indira Varma - Meera Nair's protagonist in her film, 'Kama Sutra' - has a part in it.

Congratulations are in order for this good old 'pain in the arse' (by his own admission, mind you!)!!

What's in the name anyway? Hmmm not gonna spill the beans - not now any way, and besides, that's a lot for one to be asking surely considering the pains that someone has put yours truly through: flipping through all his turgid maps for god knows how many times and for how long! All the orienteering check points covered except one, so he thought with a certain air of self-assurance: this game was now finally going to be over for good. Boy, was he in for a rude awakening, especially when yours truly was greeted with a terse piercing shot: You are baaaaaaaaaaaaaad! Ouch! :) The unbearable excruciating pain, quickly replaced by pangs of sadness and pity. On a sore note though, he thought, he would regain his customary verve and energy to try and have a go at his attempts, yet again, to claim that one last check point remaining. It appears that he's given up on his derring-do and is now back to where he left off: finishing up his freshly brewed last cuppa which has gone cold - obviously - so he can head home happy and rejuvenated!

Now, don't know, if someone has got anything to say to that! :)
